Photographic print tees at Walmart - $10.97 |
Bargain Alert: Palm Tree Prints and Surfer Tees at Walmart
As I was following my routinely (almost daily, sigh) path through our local Super Walmart, I first stopped at their Children's Crafts aisle (mandatory stop) and then made a beeline to their Toys Department. As I was passing Man's Clothing area (on my way to Toys) these bright and cheerful photographic print tees caught my eye. Beautiful palm trees and surfers looked definitely like a sign of a good relaxing life (by the way the brand is called Get A Life). However, tees with realistic burgers, hotdogs and beer were ugly and repulsive (unless of course you want to purchase them as a gag gift). The price: $10.97!
I inspected the shirts and decided man's size Small or XSmall would work for a girl. Also, if you can sew, you can make a beautiful skirt with palm trees or surfers and ocean waves. But I don't think the tees are long enough to make a mini dress out of them :(
These looks I've compiled are not refined, so please bear with me and use your imagination dreaming what this COULD look like if you styled it right.

yes, a bit tacky but can be refined |

Those shirts are great! I'd love to see them used into something cute
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with them.
ReplyDeleteI was JUST saying to my husband this weekend that I want to get into wearing Hawaiian shirts!! He had a room mate, in NY, when we first met, who was obsessed with them. And his room mate was not at all a good looking guy: he had this huge collection, which he had sprawled around the flat... I had one or two, over the years, and I don't know what became of them. But I really had a kind of craving, this weekend. Perhaps just as you spotted these at WalMart!
ReplyDeleteThere has been an emergency over the past year or two.. Christopher Kane was doing some lovely things with the idea, on fine knits.. I agree, the fast food photos are vile, but those tees: I'd just love to wear one, giantly oversized, with black tights and heels. But I can't wait to see what YOU drum up! ; )
Hope all is very well with you, dear Maya! xoxoxo
ooohh, I love the idea of oversized tee with black tights and heels and I know it would look great on you!
DeleteI really like the hamburger T-shirt! :) Wonderful gift for people in other countries. :)
ReplyDeletesome really fabulous summer inspirations! I like the hawaiian shirt and the wrap skirt. Yes I can imagine the T-shirt refashion into a skirt, great idea!

Thank you, Maya! This is becoming like an email conversation, but here's my long reply to your wonderful comments:
ReplyDelete; ) Yeah, I could see that - a big Elvis-esque! Maybe his mouth.. certainly his attitude, but I don't know if he can sing. He was only 15 that summer, and there were a LOT of calamities going on - he'd have to dive way down to unhook the anchor, and we had some real mis-haps and he'd have to take Maryann and I in the dinghy, and the on-going gag was that I was the only one who would politely thank him each time for chauffering us about! It was quite serious at times, but I'd always step off the dinghy like some kind of Park Avenue matron with a polite thank you.
He's one of those people, actually, who is just blessed: everyone loves him. So in that respect, perhaps a bit like Elvis before his white jumpsuit years! I'll have to tell him you said that.
re: the towel, I didn't even think of the connection when I saw your post! I'm still obsessed with the idea of wearing one of those big tees with tights and heels. Too bad my clubbing days are pretty much behind me. Thanks Maya! xox
p.s. re: the Hawaiian shirt as skirt.. I've seen a lot of that styling at fashion weeks - it's easier with a man's shirt with long sleeves, because you literally tie the sleeves to fasten the 'skirt'. What I love about the idea is it's not permanent. I am so afraid of DIYing clothes - it's probably part of my whole 'fear of commitment' issues.
ReplyDeleteI think literally just buttoning it round your waist - a few safety pins here and there - you'd get a kind of uneven skirt length, which is so bang on trend! As per, say, Zara:

ReplyDeletelol, Wendy. I know what you mean. Hawaiian prints are borderline between ugly and beautiful. One has to style them correctly (which I had not done yet, but have a vision of what it could be).

ReplyDeleteI would have never guessed that clutch is Jimmy Choo.
ReplyDeleteFun print, that surf tee.
To answer your question about my eye makeup: Yes, I'm doing it a bit differently lately; that is to say, I'm wearing it again. :)
I use (all by Chanel) ebony eyeshadow, their cake liner (best liner ever), and Inimitable Intense waterproof mascara. But first a primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion is my solution for keeping eyeshadow fresh in a hot, humid climate.
Thanks for asking! xo
Those tshirts are great!!
