Do you see what I see or am I imagining things?
I bought my heels back in 2010 at Goodwill for $2.50 and posted about them here and here. The burgundy genuine suede shoes were made by Nina Shoe company.
Urban Outfitters black panther court shoe is painfully similar to Nina suede heels, is it not? A golden panther/cat, black background; golden trim on top and bottom of the heel.
Here are more photos of me wearing beautiful Nina shoes two years ago:

that is wild! it's possible the two pairs were designed by someone who has worked for both companies.
ReplyDeleteperhaps there are more out there...a new take on an old trend? i have a feeling it's been repeated a few times over the decades.
your shoes are amazing! :D
ReplyDeleteI know companies are coping each others, copying from vintage all the time!
I once found on ebay a vintage sweater with a geometric print on it and a couple of years later it was on the runway of a famous fashion house almost identical! Then, a year later it arrived on topshop!
Nope you're not seeing things. In fact vintage designs are used for modern inspiration more often than we realise. Sometimes the inspiration can been see like with your shoes and other times it is a blatant like for like copy - Kate Moss for Topshop for example, Jeffery Campbell too however they do it from modern designers too. It is a hard thing as where exactly do we draw the line and say it is outright design theft - Wendy B's post today for example, or like your shoes which aren't so identical that it could be called 'influenced'. Of course there has to be a little bit of inspiration as this is how the entire fashion industry works, however Zara doing pastel colours is a far cry from reproducing pretty damn exact designs. It is something which you know bothers me a lot and I think more needs to be done to control it that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat is truly amazing - and I am loving that pink top on you too - what a great colour!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you know that old saying:"Все новое - хорошо забытое старое" ("Everything that's new is well forgotten old"))))
ReplyDeleteI sill like your shoes much more - I have a thing for purple suede, and this pair of heels looks amazing <3
OMG, Maya, your pumps are fabulous! Perfect! Divine!
ReplyDeleteI like yours better! the color and the heel...great find :)
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful shoes the ones you got at Goodwill, what a find!
ReplyDeletePart of the fun of thrift shopping! I wonder how much they sell their shoes at Urban Outfitters and they are not as nice as your find!
Thank you for your comment!

I only paid $2.50 at Goodwill (it was their half-off days). I can't seem to find the UO shoes anymore, if I remember it right they were not too expensive, cheaply made according to some reviews. Plus Nina shoes are genuine suede.

Your shoes even in the photos look better quality- and the heel is sexy.
ReplyDeleteUO, like Anthropolgie and Free People (all owned by the same company) are geniuses at marketing and knowing their niche and infamous for stealing uh, I mean appropriating design ideas and knocking off versions of their own, so I'm not surprised they were "inspired." It seems inspiration comes at a cost in fast fashion, usually at the expense of the original designer.
You look fab. the Citizen Rosebud
I so like yours better! They'll last longer too. That color pink is really pretty on you.
ReplyDeletegreat shoes... I love the details on the heels, what a fabulous find, the price is really unbelievable. Hurray for thrifting!

Wow, what a great score you got! I am coveting your heels! I was just discussing yesterday how there's a new collection that just came out at Target that knocked off a very cutting edge designer--I guess it's always happening, sadly. Hope you're off to a wonderful new week!

Bella Q puts it in a nutshell - yes, the cost is at the expense of the first designer. The originals of yours are deeply desirable.
ReplyDeleteUO has been reading your blog. (Or should be.)
