samaia (or samaya)

after posting about Georgian jewelry, i could not resist to follow up with this post on folk dancing and costumes.  as i was searching YouTube for the best fit, i learned how this famous Georgian dance Samaia was created and choreographed by Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili (the founders of the Georgian National Ballet) after their viewing of frescoes of Queen Tamar of Georgia.  The whole dance was inspired by this single fresco (positioning of hands in particular).  amazing, isn't it?!
